Project Overview
A K-12 private school with a 15-acre campus housing 800 students required a complete security modernisation. The existing system consisted of a few ageing analogue cameras that covered only the main entrance. The school administration wanted a proactive security system that could help prevent incidents.
Our design covered all building entrances, hallways, playgrounds, parking lots, and the bus drop-off zone. A key requirement was integration with the school's emergency lockdown system to automatically lock all entrances and alert local law enforcement.
Key Challenges
The school operated year-round with summer programmes, leaving only a two-week window during the Christmas break for the major installation work. Camera placement in educational spaces had to balance security needs with creating a non-intimidating environment for young students.
The emergency lockdown integration required coordination with the local police department's dispatch system. Extensive testing was conducted to ensure the system worked flawlessly under stress scenarios, including power outage simulations.
Products Used
Thirty cameras were installed across the campus: 4K bullet cameras at all external entrances, discreet dome cameras in hallways and common areas, and video doorbells at the main reception. Each classroom received an emergency call button connected to the central security office.
The system was managed by a 32-channel NVR with 24TB storage providing 45-day retention. The lockdown integration was configured with multiple trigger methods including physical buttons in the administration office and a mobile app for the principal.
Final Outcome
The school successfully passed a state security audit for the first time in five years. Two lockdown drills were conducted with the new system, with the full lockdown achieved in under 90 seconds compared to 4 minutes with the previous manual system.
Parents reported feeling significantly more confident sending their children to school after touring the new security facilities. The system has also helped resolve several minor incidents, including identifying a trespasser and locating a lost kindergartener within minutes.
