Project Overview
A historic 200-room boutique hotel in Sydney required a complete security modernisation. The existing system was a patchwork of different brands and technologies, with no unified management platform. The hotel had experienced several guest room thefts and could not provide usable footage to law enforcement.
Our design covered all guest floors, lobby, restaurant, pool area, parking garage, and back-of-house areas with a single cohesive IP surveillance system integrated with the existing key card access control.
Key Challenges
The hotel was a heritage-listed building with strict regulations about drilling, cable routing, and equipment mounting. All cameras had to be finished in period-appropriate colours and mounted using non-invasive brackets. The guest experience could not be disrupted during the installation.
Each of the 200 guest rooms needed individual access control audits, and the new system had to be tested against fire evacuation procedures to ensure automatic door unlocking in emergencies.
Products Used
Fifty Panasonic 4K bullet cameras were deployed across all areas, chosen for their discreet design and superior low-light performance. The lobby and restaurant received PTZ cameras for active monitoring of public spaces. A 32-channel NVR with 32TB storage provided 60 days of continuous recording.
The access control system was integrated with the hotel's PMS (Property Management System), automatically granting room access at check-in and revoking at checkout. Elevator access was restricted to guest floor levels only using RFID card readers.
Final Outcome
Guest theft incidents dropped by 90% within the first two months. The integrated system allowed the front desk to instantly check who accessed a guest floor at any given time. The hotel received a commendation from local law enforcement for the quality of footage provided in an incident investigation.
Operational efficiency improved as the security team could manage all 50 cameras and access points from a single console. The hotel has since marketed its enhanced security as a premium feature for business travellers.
