Project Overview
A 200-home gated community in Orange County required a unified perimeter security solution. The existing system relied on manual guard patrols and a single gate camera that provided inadequate identification quality. The homeowners association wanted an automated system that could identify residents and log all visitors.
Our design incorporated automatic number plate recognition at both entry and exit points, perimeter cameras along the boundary wall, and a central monitoring station for the security team.
Key Challenges
The community had three separate entry gates and a 2km perimeter wall with varying terrain. Coordinating cable runs across the property without disrupting residents or damaging landscaping required careful planning. The HOA required that all equipment be installed with minimal visual impact.
Integration with the existing access control system proved challenging as it was from a discontinued manufacturer. We replaced the entire access control infrastructure while maintaining uninterrupted entry for residents during the transition.
Products Used
The perimeter was secured with twenty Reolink 4K bullet cameras installed at 100-metre intervals along the boundary wall, each with 100ft IR night vision. ANPR cameras were installed at all three gates using Dahua 4K cameras with specialised LPR firmware.
The gate control system was upgraded with a Bosch B9512G alarm panel, integrating with electric gate motors and providing fail-safe operation during power outages. A central NVR with 16TB storage provided 45 days of continuous recording.
Final Outcome
The community now enjoys fully automated gate entry with ANPR recognition, reducing peak-time entry delays by 80%. The security team has been reduced from three guards per shift to one, with the monitoring station providing comprehensive coverage.
Incidents of tailgating through the gates have been virtually eliminated, and the HOA reports a 40% reduction in insurance premiums due to the improved security infrastructure. Residents appreciate the seamless entry experience.
